The STREAMS model is introduced, and while TCP/IP, UUCP and NFS are covered, it is from an SVR4 perspective. Within these limits, the book is clear, well organized, and complete. Each chapter contains a well-chosen bibliography, and a challenging set of exercises. The text concentrates on functions rather than applications. This is a departure from a number of recent texts which present the concepts within a framework of a larger program, but the code presented is ample to illustrate the points being made.
